This is a fanfic inspired of a fic I read a long while back, called "Walking on Water". I don't know the author of it and can't find it to ask for permission, so I hope he or she does not get angry and banes my fic. (Can you do that?)
Of course, the KH fic I read is a Squaffie and I'm going to make an AU-crossover FFVIII/KH that will be a Yuffentine, but still, I haven't played none the games and I'm ignorant of KH but from the fics I've read.
This fic is untitled as of yet, so ideas are welcomed. I've been trying to link the name of this fic with the one it's inspired from, but just don't have enough imagination to create something fit.
And, so I can be able to continue writing this, I have a doubt: Where are living Aerith, Cid, Leon, Cloud etc, etc, etc, when they go back to Radiant Garden? It can be called Hollow Bastion while in reconstruction? In here I mention that they all live together, and I want them to do so 'till reconstruction is over, sooooooooooo…
Hope somebody helps and if I have an error, tell me so I can fix it. As English is not my first language, I'm gonna make a lot of them.
Thanks for reading and I wait for some reviews (Wishful thinking, I know. A girl can dream, can't she?)
Kingdom Hearts and all its characters are property of Square Enix, btw.

Prologue
"Because nobody ever said that love had to be a two-way street"

She's sick and tired, day in and day out, of the pitying glances and the sorrowful whispers that follow her everywhere she goes from people who worshipped her in another time, another place and she was a hero once upon a time, but never more, because the only heartless left is herself.
Ne, Leon, what do I do with the rest of my life?
Most of all she wants to forget, because memories are something that never helped her to move on. She's strong, they say, but that's because she has worked her ass off to be so and she knows it and they know it, but being strong doesn't spare her from the hurt, the betrayal, the heartbreak and the loneliness.
The days when she didn't linger in things are long gone by now and she can't let herself be off, onto the next subject. But being a ninja means she has to be strong and has to continue on her journey no matter the hardships she faces.
Since when, then…?, she wonders. Since when am I like this?
She sees a stranger when looking into the mirror and so she breaks it, because she can't stand it. Her hand hurts, but this is a pain she understands and welcomes. Her eyes tear up, but she won't cry. No, sir! Because she's strong and crying equals weakness and that's something she doesn't need right now. Crying shows an enemy they affect you; crying gives people something to take advantage of. She is strong. Therefore she will not cry.
Never ever.
She hisses like an angry cat while cradling her bloody injury and then there's everybody inside the bathroom where she is, worried and fussing over her. "Get away from me!", she screams and it's soul shattering, so raw they step back, afraid of her and for her and she won't cry. She promised she wouldn't, though for whom the promise had been, she can't remember anymore and it's ok, because after all, she just wants to forget, but she will always, always keep that promise, never crying and sometimes she wonders if the reason she never cried before was because she never had anything to cry over to begin with.
So she runs. She wants to take off and away and never come back, but once the pain has numbed her hand and the blood has dried, she sits with her fast growing bangs shading her hollow eyes while Aerith administers a potion to help her injury heal faster. When she says thank you, her voice is so feather light, so not her, that the green eyes of the pink clad woman cry all tears the ninja can permit herself to shed.
And time passes, but she still doesn't recognize the person that stares at her through lifeless eyes from inside the mirror and she wants to break again the glass, take out that eyes, but it's no good; because last time it only cost her a week without throwing her dear shurinkens.
She thinks she should feel giddy from the reproachful looks that are sent to Squall every time he enters a room where all are congregated, but that’s just a petty retaliation and she doesn't gain anything from it either. Though his guilty eyes give her some kind of satisfaction, is not really something to be joyful over. She still wants him to be happy, after all, like a consideration for all they went through and so she takes a decision.
She is sick and tired and can't forget, but maybe, just maybe, she can go back.
To being unstoppable and insatiable and a Great Ninja Extraordinary and, most of all, Yuffie.
Just Yuffie.
Maybe she can be again that hero and be worshipped, because, honestly, that was a great burst for her ego even if Sq-Leon always called her names and was harsh and rough and it's a small change, but it's there.
And she wants to celebrate, so she goes to Cid's shop because she knows he's not there and even if he was, he wouldn't deny her anything. At least not at the moment. She raids his secret stash of alcohol and reads the labels, caressing the bottles almost reverently and takes the ones that say sake. She doesn't know why, but the name sparkles something within her and she closes her eyes to see great statues and long forgotten Gods and the colors from the sunset painting red a weird structure. The Pagoda, she thinks and the name wants to roll out of her tongue, but she suppresses it.
When she opens her eyes, her eyelashes are wet, but she doesn't know why. She can't remember.
She goes back to her room, keeping herself to the shadows to not be seen when arriving at the house everyone shares, while thinking that the analogy with the heartless is not so far from true after all and she remembers the mischief, the adrenaline from the possibility of being found out and she wants to giggle, but that would only get her caught.
She takes swing after swing of the liquid until the bottles empty and she sings, grateful that her room is far, far away from prying ears and nosy people and she laughs and feels free of everything, so she opens wide the glass doors leading to the small balcony when the air is warm inside the space she has copped herself up in the last couple of months, spreading her arms out and tilting her head up to see the moon and feel the wind dance around her and when the novelty of it passes and she feels sleepy, she goes back to her bed.
In there she sees fragments of a past life and dreams of memories within daydreams of the old days and maybe, jus maybe she understands now, but then, Yuffie wakes up.

Good fanfiction so far. =) This is amazing for someone who's native language is not English.

In the actual KHII game, it's not really shown where they live - their 'Restoration Committee HQ' is Merlin the wizard's house (from the Sword and the Stone, I believe?). While there is only one bed in the entire house, it is probably unlikely they live there, but it has been guessed that they all live together in some cottage near Merlin's.

And the fanfiction really is good so far. I would just add more description to the places - which, obviously, is hard because you've never played KH. Maybe you could watch some clips from youtube to help you out with that? It's very medieval looking.

Hope that helps. =)
